Part of my hair care regimen includes weekly deep conditioning. For the past 3 weeks in a row I have been using the Weekly Deep Conditioning Treatment by JessiCurl. In the past I have used Lustrasilk Shea Butter Cholesterol and Deep Treatment Masque by Shea Moisture. They both made my hair soft and I can say I was satisfied with them. However, staying true to the addict that I am, I had to try yet another deep conditioner. As I sat in front of my computer scrolling through the pages of CurlMart.com, there it was! It was calling me. A few clicks here and $16.95 + shipping later, it was in my shopping cart!
Here’s what they say:
Weekly deep treatments with heat really moisturize and strengthen the hair, and they’re just plain fun to do. This treatment works best with a plastic cap and left on for 20 minutes. This thick conditioner uses cocoa butter and shea butter to add some serious moisture to your hair. Great for all Hair Types! Water infused with Lemongrass, Nettle Burdock, Kelp, Marshmallow Root, Horsetail, Basil, Bay Leafm Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Cocoa Butter, Lecithin, Aloe Vera Powder, Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate. *Free of fragrance, glycerin, paraben, protein, silicone, sulfate.
How I used it:
1.) I applied the product to my dry hair prior to shampooing, placed a plastic cap on my head and slept in it overnight. The next morning I rinsed, shampooed and applied Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa conditioner and continued with the rest of my winter regimen.
2.) I applied the product to my freshly shampooed hair. I sat under a hooded dryer for 30 minutes, rinsed and continued with the rest of my winter regimen.
Now let’s talk about some of the ingredients. Some of them are pretty obvious, such as shea butter and avocado oil but there are a few that are a little less familiar to most. I notice several items I cook with such as basil, sage and thyme.
Lemongrass – used in Asian cooking and has a citrus flavor. Because of its medicinal properties it is often used to alleviate cough and nasal congestion. In addition, it is used in Ayurvedic medicine. I know a lot of naturals swear by an Ayurvedic hair care regimen. I don’t want to delve into this topic at length in this post but if interested, click here for a great article from cocoandcreme.
Behentrimonium Methosulfate – commonly found in moisturizers, detanglers and of course, conditioners. It is said to be one of the most gentle and effective ingredients in natural hair care. The “sulfate” in the name is a little misleading but it is not a sulfate. For more on this ingredient, please check out this article from The Natural Haven.
Burdock – traditionally used in natural hair care to promote hair growth and reduce hair loss.
I am pretty impressed with the ingredients! I really love the way my hair feels after using this! My hair is so soft that it reminds me of fleece. I honestly do not think my hair has ever felt so great. I will continue to pay the 16.95 + shipping to have this in my possession.
Some naturals complain that the product does not provide slip. I never expected it to do that based on the ingredients. I purchased it for its deep conditioning qualities and it does that. I always follow up with the Kinky Curly Knot Today for detangling.

Here’s what I say:
The Senses:· Sight - it is beige like in color and the consistency reminds me of cake icing.
· Smell –I purchased the Citrus Lavender scent and it does have more of a citrusy smell than lavender, as the title suggests. It does have a hint of a minty scent also which makes sense as peppermint is one of the ingredients. The scent is just strong enough to alert you of its presence.
· Touch - it feels semi creamy but more on the side of a pomade so it is on the thick side.

In my previous post, I talked about my experience with Curls Milkshake, which I liked a lot! I promised a review of the Curls Souffle Cream next – here goes!
Ingredients:Purified Water, Certified Organic Sunflower Oil, Certified Organic Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Cocoa Butter, Polyimide-1, Glyercin, Certified Organic Coconut Oil, Certified Organic Sweet Almond Oil, * Gardenia Essential Oil, Tahitian Coconut Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Avocado Oil, Plumeria Oil, Olive Oil, Sodium Carbomer, Centillica Asiatica, Panthenol, Octyl Palmitate, Polysorbate-80, Soy Tocopherols, Phenoxyethanol, Ethyl Hexyl Glyercin, Fragrancehe
The smell is lovely! It is thicker because it is more of a hair cream or butter.
It is said to work great as a gel substitute to smooth edges, slick hair, and to hold twists and locs in place. I did not use this in this manner, however, I am going to try it because I am an eco styler fan, which I would like to get away from using so often. The instructions say to use it on damp hair - I did not. I used it on dry hair as a moisturizer and styler on my braid out. I really liked the results. It was creamy and my hair was soft, however, it wasn't as soft as other products I've used and it didn’t feel extremely moisturized either. It wasn't dry but it I'm sure using it on dry hair opposed to following the directions has alot to do with it. I am also wondering if I need to use something underneath it, much like I have with other cream products to assist with the moisturizing capabilities.I used this pretty much the same way I used the milkshake but only on dry hair. I used about a quarter size of each of my four chunky braids and tied it up for the night. The next morning when I took it down, the waves were huge. It was bouncy but not as shiny as I would have liked. Again, could be user error...I could have used too much product and definitely didn't adhere to the recommended use. I’m really anxious to try it again and see what happens. The frizz I got from the milkshake product did not occur with this product. There was no frizz at all. Overall, my hair likes it! Big thumbs up!

Curly Nikki has been raving about Curls Milkshake and Curls Souffle Cream. After seeing her results pics, I had to give them a try! Did I expect the same results as hers or expect my hair to look exactly like hers? Of course not, that's unrealistic but I did expect favorable results.
Ingredients:Purified water, certified organic aloe barbadensis leaf juice, cetearyl alcohol, behentrimonium methosulfate, Certified Organic jojoba oil, cetrimonium chloride, soy protein, soyamidoprpylkonium chloride, allantoin, soy lecithin, Certified Organic sweet almond milk, Certified Organic coconut milk, Certified Organic aloe vera milk, milk amino acids, buttermilk, Certified Organic arnica extract, Certified Organic lavender extract, Certified Organic chamomile extract, Certified Organicwhite tea extract, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, fragrance.
It is said to be the “perfect 4-in-1 leave-in for all curlies . . . especially for those with needy, dry curls. It will define, defrizz, revive, hydrate and soften dry curls. Derived from natural milks and exotic extracts, this moisturizing cream will bring life back to your overworked tresses.”
I did enjoy the smell - it kind of reminded me of a candle called "Birthday Cake" but it wasn't an overwhelming smell. The texture is just like you would think, like that of a creamy milkshake – but not a thick milkshake. It is very light so you don't feel as if you have a ton of product on your hair. Ok so the claim to "revive, hydrate and soften dry curls" is what sealed the deal for me. I am always trying to find something for moisture - especially right now because it is so cold outside and we all know how the cold affects our skin and hair, especially naturals. You have to do more to combat the harshness so I looked at it as a plus, another plus, and another plus on these three promises! Did they deliver? Well, yes and no. My hair was extremely soft and hydrated for the first few days. After the second day, it was a little dry and frizzy. Remember, I do like a little frizz but not coupled with dryness. On the second day, I dampened it with a spray bottle, added more product and re braided. My hair seemed even more dry and frizzy. I found myself having to add alot more oil and shea to make it not look so thirsty. I haven't given up on the product because perhaps its user error. I think I made the mistake of using it as a styler, which it is not.
I shared photos of my hair on this post.
Next review – Curls Souffle Cream!
I used this for the first time this past weekend. The jury is still out for me. I shampooed my hair with shampoo. I then added the Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in because I have major tangles! I think my hair is 3c but I am not a hair labeler like that so I'm not really sure about that. Anyway, I separated my hair into 4 sections to prep for my braid out and applied the Cantu. I probably used about 2 quarter size helpings to each section. The next morning I had bouncy waves. Each night since then I have applied more to my dry hair (misted with a tad of water and olive oil) and rebraided. A lot of people have complained about it leaving a white residue in their hair and leaving it sticky. I have no visible white residue and my hair is soft. Is does look a little dry though but could be the fact that I am using it as a styling aid. Not sure how to handle it yet I suppose.
I purchased this 16 oz jar from Target for $4.87, very very reasonable. The smell is pretty good – it’s one of those scents that I can put my finger on but it smells like something edible. It reminds me of plain Greek yogurt, as far as appearance. Consistency wise – hmmmm, let me think. Not thick like pudding but definitely not runny. My thoughts are not to use it as a styling cream but only a leave in. Today is day 5 of using the product. Since I probably won’t leave the house this weekend because I have so much to do, I may do a wash and go and see how it does on my hair that way. I think I need to use a few more times and a few different methods. Updates to follow.

OK so I finally tried it and honestly I expected to be disappointed. I have always heard that the line is drying, the ingredients are horrible and that it leaves your hair starving for moisture. Oh and the main complaint is always the cost! A few bad reviews can turn you completely against something, unless you are a “PJ” like me and have to try it out for yourself. I am a glutton for punishment I suppose.
I wanted to be able to give my own personal account of how my hair responded to the product. No product is for everyone so I always keep that in mind when trying new products. I must confess, I would have NEVER purchased the product if they were not running the BOGO special. I just could never justify it when there are so many other affordable products out there. Yet it is still hard to ignore those who sing its praises. One in particular, Kabrinam loves their products. She is a YouTuber who I really enjoy. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous and she gives very honest and forthright reviews so it kind of made me listen up when I watched her reviews. The product claims to be "Excellent for: twist and braid out, spiral rod set, fingerstyling, 2-strand twists, curly weaves and more! Amazing for OUTTA CONTROL CURLS!" It is also advertised as ideal for "curly, wavy, or kinky hair" - check, check, and check! It might as well say "Tammy's hair".

Ingredients: water, parafinium liquidum, glycerin, triethanolamine, fragrance, carbomer, wheat amino acids, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, avocado oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba seed oil, olive fruit oil, oleth-5, PEG-12 dimethicone, ethylhexyl methoxycinnanate, disodium EDTA, DMDM hydantion, iodopropynyl, butylcarbanate, yellow 5. Paraben-free and silicone free.
So right off the bat, I'm concerned with the "parafinium liquidum" (mineral oil) which is extremely drying for natural hair - something we don't need more of - dryness! Because of this I will not use it as a staple product and I will definitely use a clarifying shampoo after. At any rate, here goes...I opened the jar and omg! The smell! It was delightful! One of the best smelling fragrances I've smelled in a hair product. It smells almost edible and reminds me of a pound cake batter my grandmother used to bake. I am very attracted to pleasant smelling products - like many consumers and I will purchase something based on the scent alone. I will also trash a product based on smell alone. I co washed my hair with Aussie Moist conditioner, detangled in the shower and couldn't wait to get started.
Since I am a big fan of the braid out lately, I sectioned my hair into six sections and proceeded to braid my damp hair, while applying about a dime size of product to each section. The texture is very creamy and almost looks like vanilla pudding. Eye candy if you will. I tied my hair up with a satin scarf and retired for the night. I left the braids in for two days, which was a mistake for me because it didn't turn out as big as I like it. It was a little too defined if that makes sense. I took each section down with jojoba oil on my fingers, however, my hair was shiny before I applied the oil. I was very surprised about that because I still had the dry as the dessert expectation in the back of my mind. I was already trying to figure out what I would do with my hair in the event that it was horrible. As I took each section down, very defined and shiny waves were revealed. I couldn't believe it. I actually liked it - I didn't love it but I liked it. The jar cost me $22 for 8 ounces and I got a second jar free. I forwarded the other jar to my daughter. Her hair is completely different so I am interested in seeing what results are achieved once she uses it. My hair felt soft and smooth - not dry and brittle like I expected. I had intended on using a leave in underneath mostly because I was afraid of the dry results but it turned out I didn't need it.
How I wore my hair:
I wore my braid out on day 1 to give it a chance to loosen up. I slept with a satin scarf but I didn't re-braid it that night. This was Christmas night and it been a long day. I barely got the scarf on.
Day 2 - I was inspired by the Girlfriends Marathon that was on. My girl Joan had her hair beautiful curls pulled back yet still really full so that is the look I went for. I lightly sprayed it with water and pulled it back using a Goody Pony Pouf Clip gadget. It pulls your hair snug without sacrificing the bulk which is what I love. Before bed, I braided my hair into four huge braids without reapplying additional product or wetting.
Day 3 - The next day when I took it down - bouncy, fluffy waves and I love it! I did not leave the house so that was the extent of my styling. However, had I left, the only thing I would need to do is add some oil and keep it moving. Thumbs up on the Curly Meringue. Next time I will try it on freshly shampooed hair.
Shampoo Prep
Prior to shampooing I sectioned my hair into 4 sections and applied a mixture of Vatika Oil and water to gently detangle with a wide tooth comb.
Why Vatika Oil you ask? Check out the product description:
Vatika is a premium coconut hair oil enriched with Henna, Amla, Lemon and six unique natural formulation ensure deeper oil, penetration to give your hair and scalp complete nourishment for complete free healthy hair. Henna, along with other herbs, coats your hair, protects it from oxidation, maintaining its natural colour. Amla, strengthens the roots of your hair to help maintain their health and natural thickness. The astringent action of Lemon control sebum grow.
Need I say more? Wait, I will say more - regarding the smell.
It is an odd scent that I can't describe. It does not necessarily stink but it does make you wrinkle your nose up a bit.
It is an odd scent that I can't describe. It does not necessarily stink but it does make you wrinkle your nose up a bit.
I then generously applied my Cholestrol treatment that I use all the time to and sectioned with my large hair clips, which I love! They are really roller clamps so you can fit so much hair in them! Anyway, I then placed a plastic cap over my head.
There are a couple of reasons I do this prep work. 1.) loosen up the dirt in my hair 2.) to ensure managability during and after the shampoo process. I left the plastic cap on my head for 3 hours.
The next morning:
I rinsed my hair in the shower. My hair felt so fluffy and cottony (is that a word?).
Here is my hair with no product.
As usual, I sectioned in four sections and began my styling process. I am trying a new product I purchased by Giovanni. The Natural Mousse Air Turbo Charged Hair Styling Foam - long a%* title huh? I have never used it before so I am anxious to see the results.
Here are some pics of my prep...results to follow!

For some reason, lately no matter how many times I try a twist out on my hair, it ends up looking like a wash – n – go. I have watched tutorials, tried multiple products, I have tried little twists, big twists, every amount of twists, you name it! It never turns out the way I want it to! Do I have unreasonable expectations? Have I just not found the right product for my hair? What is it?! Here is what I always envision when twisting. (I found this photo while perusing google!)
Bottom line, I have had no success as of late. For now, I will stick to my braid outs.

On a more positive note, I did wash and condition my hair the other night and finally got a chance to use Yes To Tomatoes Volumizing Conditioner! I really like it!
I wasn’t happy about the $8.99 price tag because I know other people purchased it for only $2.99 at Ross. We do not have a Ross in Ohio so I really had no choice if I wanted the product. So here’s how it went! Before shampooing, I finger - sectioned my hair into four sections and sprayed it with an olive oil/H2O mixture. I then took a wide tooth comb and detangled each section. It was not as tangled as I thought it would be! I then applied Lustrasilk Shea Butter Cholesterol treatment to each section. This was my first time using this as well. I left this on with a plastic cap for 3 hours. I then shampooed my hair in the shower with Trader Joe’s Nourish Shampoo and reached for the Yes to Tomatoes conditioner bottle. The scent was very subtle but clean. I applied a generous amount all over my head and then combed it through with my Ouidad detangler. It was one of the easiest comb through sessions ever. The comb just glided through so easily! My hair felt extremely soft and moisturized and didn’t feel weighed down. I also had a lot of volume, which is the claim on the bottle. Since I cannot completely attribute the results to the Yes To Tomatoes alone, I will have to use it alone or as a co-wash to see how it truly delivers. So for now, it was a hit for me!
Ingredients:

Anyway, I have been meaning to post my review on Kinky Curly's Knot Today forever. Since this is one of the products she names for review feedback, I decided to participate.
Here is my entry:
Although I have been natural for many years, my curls and I have only recently become intimate. I am a certified self proclaimed product junkie, and as a result, I use something different in my hair on a weekly basis. However, the one product that is my "little black dress" so to speak, meaning it is the ultimate "staple", is the Knot Today. I use this product after every shampoo/deep conditioning and detangling session. After separating my hair into four sections, I apply a about a quarter size to each section and let the magic happen. This little bottle of heaven makes detangling less of a chore. Once it is applied, my fingers or whatever detangling tool I chose, glide right through. Nothing is going to eliminate tangles completely, but this is as good as it gets. This double threat product also adds softness to my naturally dry kinks. I usually mix it with olive oil as an extra something something, but it is hardly necessary. This is a stand alone product that delivers on its promises. Hands down - you get more than a bang for your buck.

So, I shared a few weeks ago that I received my Tangle Teezer in the mail. I couldn’t wait to try it because of all the hype surrounding it and because I have been on this quest for an emergency detangler. Anyway, I went to Sally’s to purchase but wouldn’t you know it, turns out it was a Christmas item only! Who knew?! I ended up ordering it online from Sally’s through Amazon.com. Go figure! Anyway, it was $9.99 + shipping. I also ordered one for my daughter as part of her Valentine’s Day gift pack J. The blogs have been inundated with stories of what it does or doesn’t do so I was trying to wait for a minute to post my thoughts so here goes.
Here’s what they say!
Is your hair care regime tormented by tangled hair? Do you spend hours trying to detangle your hair only to find yourself getting nowhere? If you are guilty of repeatedly torturing your hair with incorrect brushes or combs that only tug, tighten and tear tangles from your hair, then class yourself as an undercover hair criminal. However, do not despair as a hair care revelation is at hand, guaranteeing hair rehabilitation - Tangle Teezer Original, the professional detangling hairbrush. So impressive are the results, that it has taken the beauty industry by storm overnight. An innovation in hair care that gently and effortlessly detangles your hair with no pain. It really is your hair care saviour and a true detangling solution. Tangle Teezer Original is the only brush that is literally changing lives. |
Closer look of Teezer Side |
Here’s what I say!
What I like:
The look: Color – the pink is so cute and feminine!
The price: Not bad at all but for some reason, I HATE paying for shipping! Silly, I know.
What surprised me about it:
At first glance, it doesn’t appear to be very user friendly. The fact that there is no handle had me thinking it would be difficult to maneuver. Not true at all. It fits perfect into my small hands and it doesn’t slip and slide through my hands like I thought it would.
How I used it:
I still followed my normal detangling procedure. I’ve used it on both cowashed hair and freshly shampooed hair.
1. Apply Kinky Curly Knot Today Detangler/Leave In (ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS)
2. Apply olive oil
3. Finger section into 4 sections
4. Use wide tooth comb to detangle each section
5. Use the Tangle Teezer to further detangle
Denman Side |
What else:
I also did a side by side hair comparison. I wanted to see the difference in the way my hair looked, if there was a difference at all. For example, what’s the difference between using the Denman brush and the Tangle Teezer?
Right Side – Denman (I think this is the D3 )
Left Side – Tangle Teezer
Verdict: The Tangle Teezer definitely came out victorious in this battle. It basically glided right through my hair with ease while the Denman seemed to pull my hair. It was a rough ride. The left side is visibly sleeker and took me less time to detangle.
*Disclaimer – there are several different types of Denmans so it could be that I am not using the right one for my hair
What do you think?
Would I recommend it to others?
Yep! I have major detangling difficulties like most curly chics and this really works well.

So last night was my first time using the Suave Almond and Shea Butter product. I was a little apprehensive because I’ve never really liked Suave products. However, like I said, I’d read about it on another blog and decided why not try it. For one thing, it’s super super cheap! $1.84 each and last week Target had it marked down to $1.64! At those prices, I can afford to toss if don’t like it
Anyway, I deep conditioned with Lustrasilk Shea Butter Cholestrol with a plastic cap for about 3 hours. I then shampooed with the shampoo. It had just enough lather and a really suttle smell – pretty simple. It’s shampoo. I had been wearing my hair in a bun all week so it was pretty tangled and knotted up so I was worried that the conditioner might not do the job, even though the bottle boasts that it “conditions as good as Aveda”, those are really big shoes to fill! It’s been awhile since I’ve used Aveda shampoo or conditioner, so I’m not sure if this is true or not. Although it smells ok, it certainly doesn’t smell as good as Aveda products. At any rate, I was pleasantly surprised that I liked the conditioner as well as I did. It was sooooo extra creamy and moisturizing! I was able to comb right through my hair with no problem. It just felt so soft! After I rinsed it out, it was still cottony and there were zero tangles! Definitely a keeper and a future purchase!

2. Scent
I ordered the lavender vanilla scent. Independently these smells are great so how you could go wrong with this collabo? Not likely. It met my expectations and more when I first unscrewed the lid. Not too strong or overpowering. Just the right amount of femininity without smelling like flowers and perfume. I am a sucker for scents! This actually should have been #1 on the list.
3. Consistency
I expected a more creamy consistency so I was surprised to see a thicker product. It’s not thick like a deep conditioner or mask, more like a pomade type thickness. When I dipped my index finger in and began to rub it between my index and thumb, it became more like oil. This explains the melting warning listed on the site. This jar will definitely need to be stored in a cool place, much like my coconut oil.
4. Packaging
All of the KBB products come in black containers. *I also have shampoo, conditioner, as well as the Sweet Ambrosia leave in. I have not used all of them yet. I really like the look, reminds me of a little black dress; elegant and classy. It’s nothing fancy with simple black lettering. The sophistication is in the simplicity.
5. The way it makes my hair feel
I applied this to my detangled mane after having it braided for two days. The instructions on the jar suggest using it on dry hair for the best results. I have found that it’s best to follow directions because the creator knows best. My normal routine consists of dry styling anyway so this was a non issue for me. I was unfamiliar with its use prior to purchasing. I purchased it simply because it was a butter that I have wanted to try for some time now. Oh…and because of the obvious, my addiction. Styling butters and creams are my drug of choice. I used about a dime sized portion on each of my 6 dry braids. It slid on like “butter”. As I took down each braid, I couldn’t help but make that sound you make when you are getting a massage. You know the feel good moan? That is how great my hair felt! It was as if it had been looking for this product its entire natural life. I found myself wanting someone else to touch it just so I could get them to co sign my thoughts.

*Product Review Disclaimer
I shampooed my hair and wore and wash and go, mostly out of pure laziness but also because I wanted to see how my hair would hold up. I had sworn off the “minimal effort” wash and go a month ago because of the ridiculous amount of tangling and knots I was experiencing. When Elle, who is the queen of wash and gos, suggested a try a different application method I had to reconsider. What better time to do so than when trying out a new product.
I used the Get Set Hair Jelly in conjunction with the Butter Than Love Whipped cream. See my full review by clicking here. For the most part, I only use gels to aid in slick bunning or any style where I wear my hair off my face. This time I raked a palm size amount of the gel and several drops of jojoba oil through my hair and used a generous amount around my hair line. It is a very light gel in comparison to the eco styler gel I normally use. It did not leave any white flakes nor did it make my hair feel crunchy, which of course a huge plus. It provided just enough hold to cure the fly aways.
Product Claims: Get Set Hair Jelly smooths, soothes and controls frizz without stiffness. Used with organic aloe vera which for many is a miraculous plant. In hair it is used to promote growth and revitalize hair. This jelly is also loaded with pro-vitamin B5 (panthenol) to strengthen your hair. Get Set Hair Jelly keeps your coils looking fresh and fabulous all day.
Get Set Hair Jelly isn’t your typical hair gel. This Jelly defines your curls and protects your hair from humidity. For best results, use with Get Slick Hair Smoothie.
Scent - this is a very mild scent and it smells so clean and fresh.
Directions for use:
Section clean damp hair, apply liberally to sections. Dry naturally or with a hair dryer. I chose to let my hair air dry.

Curious about the ingredients?
Here they are and I checked a little further into a couple of them.
*The one ingredient that caused me to raise an eyebrow was the Hamamelis virginiana, better known as Witch Hazel. In my toner that I mix for my face, one of the ingredients I use is witch hazel. The reason I use it as a toner ingredient is because it helps treat acne breakouts and reduces inflammation (acne, undereye swelling, etc.). It can also be used to treat diaper rash (remember I have a little one), heal sunburn and treat dry skin. When I checked into it after noticing it listed on the ingredients list, I found that it is a common ingredient in hair products because it helps with frizz and provides hold.
When I used it to provide sleekness to my bun, it looked nice and shiny initially but my sleekness did not remain throughout the day. It doesn’t look bad at all, just not as sleek. In the product’s defense, it does say for best results, use with the Get Slick Hair Smoothie. Perhaps I will give that a try next. J I also don't believe it is intended to be used in the manner I used it.

I have both hands raised as I check out my hair in the mirror after using Wonder Curl! It has taken me a minute to write up this review but I wanted to use the products a few different ways before I documented my experience. I met the lovely Scarlet, founder of Wonder Curl, while in New Jersey a few months back. She has such a pleasant demeanor and was super friendly. This savvy business woman has come up with a great product line and is expanding faster than I can write this review! She was gracious enough to send me 2 products so this will be a 2 parter! Up first – the Butter Than Love Hair Whipped.
Product Claims: Butter than Love Hair Pudding is an ultra-moisturizing hair cream. Will hydrate your natural hair without weighing down your curls. BTL Whipped is a dream for parched curls. This thick and rich cream is loaded with oils and butters resulting in hair that is full of life and bounce.
Scent – When I first opened the jar, the smell was a tad strong for me but still pleasant. It has a perfumey/flowery scent which is not a bad thing but since I have pretty severe allergies my nose can be a little sensitive. I personally prefer a milder scent when it comes to my hair and skin. The great thing is you can request a scent free version which I think is a plus. Not many product lines offer the two options.
Consistency - It has a creamy consistency, not too thick, not too watery. It’s just right! I sound like Goldilocks! It looks like some type of whipped icing. When you rub the product between your fingers, it dissolveds into a more oil like form. You definitely do not need much which I learned after my first application. The creamy consistency makes for easy application. I initially used it on freshly shampooed wash and go hair. The picture below is after several days of being out in the elements and leaving it to stray about at night with nothing but a satin bonnet (HUGE MISTAKE) so it does look a little parched but it did not look like this initially. I apologize for not having fresh photos.
I took a tip from my girl Elle and applied the cream section by section and that seemed to work out well. I didn’t have as many tangles and it didn’t frizz as much. It was extremely hot and humid when I used the product and my curls held up nicely. My mane was very moisturized and non greasy. There was no product residue either. I was pleasantly surprised. In addition, I raked a quarter size portion of the Get Set Hair Jelly through my hair. I typically only use gels for edges so I didn’t use much.

Presentation – We all know first impressions are important. Product presentation is no different. When I look at packaging, the first things I notice are the shape of the container and the logo. If this product was on a shelf in a store, it would definitely catch my eye. It comes in a clear square jar but it has a round lid. The pink, black and white logo is ultra femme and very appealing to the eye. Research shows that consumers like to buy agreeably designed and decorative products so clearly she did her homework.
Directions for use:
Section clean damp hair, apply liberally to sections. Dry naturally or with a hair dryer. I chose to let my hair air dry.
What’s In This Cute Jar? Let’s talk about ingredients for a moment.
We are all familiar with Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Castor Oil and Shea Butter but there a few other ingredients:
- Caprylic/Capric/Stearic Glycerides – (Skin-Conditioning Agent )
- Cetyl Alcohol / Cetearyl Alcohol – (Vegetable source fatty alcohol derived from natural
oils and fats (cetyl and stearyl alcohol) used to thicken and stabilize) - Glyceryl Stearate - Glyceryl Stearate (acts as a lubricant which provides soft and smooth appearance)
- Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate (organic)
- Acrylates/C-10 Alkyl Acrylates
- Phenoxyethanol – fragrance ingredient, preservative
- Ethylhexylglycerin - a conditioning agent and preservative. If natural ingredients are import to you, this is not a true natural ingredient; however, it is derived from vegetable oil.
Price: $12 for 4 oz (Shipping is free for orders of $35 or more)
Other ways I used the productAfter a few days of the wash and go, I lightly dampened my hair with my spray bottle of oil and water mixed and braided my hair in 6 sections. It still produced soft, moisturized hair. Here are the results:

Curly Chic
I hope everyone has had a chance to use the Bee Mine discount code “CURLYCHICS” running through December 7th.
I had the amazing opportunity to review 3 Bee Mine Products, so this will be a 3 parter.
First up -
Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter I have been a fan of the Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter for over a year now. There are several factors I consider when I decide if a product will have a permanent home in my arsenal. See how the Curly Butter faired.
Scent – If the product appeals to my receptors, it is already ahead of the game before I even use it. I am one of those consumers who will make a purchase largely based on scent.
The Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter’s scent is amazing! I have tried both the Coconut Cream and the Island Mango scents. I like the coconut cream but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Island Mango. This scent is hands down my favorite. It is one of those smells that will have a person “febreezing” you. It smells that good! If scents aren’t your thing, you can also purchase an unscented version.
Price – clearly price point is important. I want what most consumers want, quality product with minimal cost.
An 8 oz jar costs $13.97 which I consider to be very reasonable.
Does it live up to its own hype?
If the product claims to provide moisture and softness, I want my hair to maintain moisture levels and feel uber soft. If the product states “all natural”, the ingredients better be all natural. Does it deliver? Does it do what it says it will do?
Product Description:
This shea butter and aloe based curly butter is packed with rich moisturizing nutrients to give you long lasting moisture and promote growth. It has a soft touchable hold that will help to defrizz your frizzes and give great definition. This Curly Butter is wonderful for twists, finger curls, puffs/pony tails and especially for laying down unruly hair. Great for naturals, relaxed, texlaxed, everyone.
Moisture – check, defrizz – check, great definition – check, softness - check check!
Packaging
Curb appeal is important as well. If the container is pleasing to the eye, it will grab my attention. It shows that the company did their homework and researched their customer base. Is the packaging memorable? Will I quickly be able to identify the product line? Is the container easy to open and dispense?
The fact that the company uses the bumble bee as its logo makes it memorable and easily identifiable.
Ingredients
Although I prefer all natural or organic ingredients, I do not have a zero tolerance policy on it. I look for ingredients that agree with my hair. If my hair responds well to a not so natural product, I may still use it depending on what else is in it. Yes, that's a dent from my finger. It reminds me of cake batter!
Ingredients: 100% Shea Butter, 100% Aloe Vera Gel, Essential Oil Blend, Vegetable Glycerin, Rosemary Leaf and Chammomile Extract, Silk Powder and Perfume
The ingredients in the curly butter are excellent, especially with shea butter and aloe being at the top of the list.
How accessible is it?
I personally prefer to be able to run right to my local store and pick up the things I need, especially when it comes to my hair. However, I am a frequent online shopper and have grown accustomed to waiting on the postal system for my items. Bee Mine Products turnaround time is awesome! I received my products within 36 hours of my purchase. Yeah, unheard of with some product lines, right?
How I used the product
1. Freshly shampooed flat twist protected style
2. After I took my protected style down that I had worn for 5 days, I took the flat twists out and wore it loose but did not have to reapply product.
3. Co washed braid out
4. Freshly shampooed braid out. Reapplied after day two when I rebraided at night
5. Stretched braid out
Bottom line - this product is everything! I highly recommend it! Big thank you to the lovely Tracey Q, Founder and Creator of Bee Mine Products, Inc. for sending me this items.
Rating: 5 out of 5 curls
I add a little Castor oil to my shampoo, simply to aid in the cleansing process.
Scent
I am not a fan of this smell but it is tolerable. It smells like black licorice to me which I am also not a fan of.
Vicosity/Consistency
It is about the same thickness of most shampoos. Typical of most shampoos which are free of sulphates, there is not a lot of lather so if you are the type who needs to see tons of suds, this is not the shampoo for you. What is important to me are the ingredients and the cleansing properties. I use about a fifty cents size and I shampoo twice.

The number one reason I purchased this is because of the price. Walgreens ran a buy one get one sale last summer and I used that as the opportunity to try a new product from their line. (I have already used the Curl Enhancing Smoothie, the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Conditioning Hair Milk, as well as the Deep Treatment Masque.) The number two reason I purchased it was because it is an all natural product which moves it up the list for me. I also know that black soap is supposed to help with dry skin and has healing properties so I figured it would do the same for my hair. The final reason is because I didn’t have another shampoo that I was a fan of.
This shampoo is just “ok” for me. It doesn’t contain sulphates and parabens which is a plus. It does what it’s supposed to do, cleanse and it does so without leaving my hair feeling stripped. As for extra bells and whistles, there aren’t any, however, I will continue to use it until I find something that knocks my socks off.

This is part 3 of my 3 part review of Bee Mine Products! Click here for part 1 and here for part 2. Let's just get right to it! I could not keep my hands out of my hair. Talk about uber softness and super moisturized! *swoons* My hair is color treated so I have to do a lot to keep it moisturized and it's no easy feat. This did the trick. Since I have highly porous hair, it absorbed the product very easily. Although its consistency is thin like milk, but not quite that thin, as the title suggest, you don’t need an excessive amount. I applied the amount I usually apply for any product which is a little over a quarter size to each of my 6 sections. I used to do 4 sections but after some growth, I find it easier to deal with in 6. It makes for much easier distribution. I did my usual braid out but I also used this to do a protected two-strand twists style and it was awesome. My hair was still soft after taken them down a week later!
