My Experience with JessiCurl Deep Conditioning Treatment, Product Review

Part of my hair care regimen includes weekly deep conditioning.  For the past 3 weeks in a row I have been using the Weekly Deep Conditioning Treatment by JessiCurl.  In the past I have used Lustrasilk Shea Butter Cholesterol and Deep Treatment Masque by Shea Moisture.  They both made my hair soft and I can say I was satisfied with them.  However, staying true to the addict that I am, I had to try yet another deep conditioner.  As I sat in front of my computer scrolling through the pages of CurlMart.com, there it was!  It was calling me.  A few clicks here and $16.95 + shipping later, it was in my shopping cart!

Here’s what they say:
Weekly deep treatments with heat really moisturize and strengthen the hair, and they’re just plain fun to do.  This treatment works best with a plastic cap and left on for 20 minutes.  This thick conditioner uses cocoa butter and shea butter to add some serious moisture to your hair.  Great for all Hair Types!  Water infused with Lemongrass, Nettle Burdock, Kelp, Marshmallow Root, Horsetail, Basil, Bay Leafm Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Cocoa Butter, Lecithin, Aloe Vera Powder, Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.  *Free of fragrance, glycerin, paraben, protein, silicone, sulfate.

Here’s what I say:
The Senses:
·    Sight - it is beige like in color and the consistency reminds me of cake icing.
·    Smell –I purchased the Citrus Lavender scent and it does have more of a citrusy smell than lavender, as the title suggests.  It does have a hint of a minty scent also which makes sense as peppermint is one of the ingredients.  The scent is just strong enough to alert you of its presence.
·    Touch - it feels semi creamy but more on the side of a pomade so it is on the thick side.

How I used it:
1.)    I applied the product to my dry hair prior to shampooing, placed a plastic cap on my head and slept in it overnight.  The next morning I rinsed, shampooed and applied Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa conditioner and continued with the rest of my winter regimen

2.)   I applied the product to my freshly shampooed hair.  I sat under a hooded dryer for 30 minutes, rinsed and continued with the rest of my winter regimen.

Now let’s talk about some of the ingredients.  Some of them are pretty obvious, such as shea butter and avocado oil but there are a few that are a little less familiar to most.  I notice several items I cook with such as basil, sage and thyme.

Lemongrass – used in Asian cooking and has a citrus flavor.  Because of its medicinal properties it is often used to alleviate cough and nasal congestion.  In addition, it is used in Ayurvedic medicine.   I know a lot of naturals swear by an Ayurvedic hair care regimen.  I don’t want to delve into this topic at length in this post but if interested, click here for a great article from cocoandcreme.

Behentrimonium Methosulfate – commonly found in moisturizers, detanglers and of course, conditioners.  It is said to be one of the most gentle and effective ingredients in natural hair care.  The “sulfate” in the name is a little misleading but it is not a sulfate.  For more on this ingredient, please check out this article from The Natural Haven.
Burdock – traditionally used in natural hair care to promote hair growth and reduce hair loss.

I am pretty impressed with the ingredients!  I really love the way my hair feels after using this!  My hair is so soft that it reminds me of fleece.  I honestly do not think my hair has ever felt so great.  I will continue to pay the 16.95 + shipping to have this in my possession.

Some naturals complain that the product does not provide slip.  I never expected it to do that based on the ingredients.   I purchased it for its deep conditioning qualities and it does that.  I always follow up with the Kinky Curly Knot Today for detangling.
